Where’s the Extra Credit Button? Cameron C. Lindsey, PharmD, BC-ADM, CDE, BCACP Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Administration Director of Co-Curriculum
Quandary Wanted to provide extra credit questions but not have them figure into the denominator in the gradebook. No option to mark a question as EXTRA CREDIT like in Blackboard Wanted to actually assess the knowledge, not provide simple extra points
Blackboard
Canvas Extra credit is not currently a default option Many options Manually add extra points to an Existing Assignment Manually add Fudge Points Add within a Rubric Total was 9 points https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-9940-415278195
Solution Created all questions and assigned points to each question Allowed all to be graded Did not designate one question as extra credit Warned students that the grades would show up out of a higher number of points and would and would need adjusted. After quiz was taken: Muted (hid) the column from students Updated a question to zero points to remove from the denominator Manually used SpeedGrader to re-input the score that was originally earned by grading all students but now the denominator is correct. The original score is kept when you go back in so you just have to re-type it. A rocketship shows up until you do this.
