Welcome To Algebra Concept week 9 Mrs.Fardous Mrs. Beydoun

Objectives: Day 1 Monday October 30, 2017 I can use order of operation to evaluate expressions. SLOT: -72 ÷ 9 = _____ -24 = _____ -2 55 ÷ (-5) = _____ -14 = _____ 2

Notes (power point) Practice

Evaluating Algebraic Expression *To evaluate an algebraic expression is to find the value of the expression. STEPS: 1. Substitute the given value for the variables (replace letters with the given numbers) 2. Solve using the order of operations (PEMDAS)

Example : Solution : 2x + 5y = 2 (4) + 5 (2) = 8 + 10 = 18 Evaluate 2x + 5y when x = 4 and y = 2 Solution : 2x + 5y = 2 (4) + 5 (2) = 8 + 10 = 18

Evaluate p+2q+ 3r given p = 2 q = 4, r = 6 =2+ 2(4) + 3(6) =2 + 8 + 18 =28

Example : Evaluate 3c + 5 if c = 5 and d = 1 4d Solution : = 15 + 5 4 = 20 = 5

I can use order of operation to evaluate expressions. Day 2 Tuesday October 31, 2017 Objectives: I can use order of operation to evaluate expressions. SLOT: -63 ÷ 9 = _____ -24 = _____ 4 (-25) ÷ (-5) = _____ -14 = _____ 7 - - +

Go over Homework Evaluate expression dice activity Assign homework

Day 3 Wednesday November 1, 2017 Objectives: I can use the skills learned about integers to complete a time line project SLOT: -27x ÷ 9 = _____ -32y = _____ 8 (-20xy) ÷ (-10) = _____ -14+5 = _____ 9

Check Homework Start on individual project-rough draft Bring pictures for project at least 4

Objectives: Day 4 Thursday November 2, 2017 I can use the skills learned about integers to complete a time line project SLOT: Write two sentences describing the meaning of the word “integers” and what did you learn about them

Finish working on project Due at the end of the hour
