Unit 5 Day 2 Measures of Center

Measures of Center A measure of center is one number that tells us about the data. Commonly used measures are: Mean Median Mode

MEAN (aka. AVERAGE) To find the mean: 1. add the numbers up 2. divide by how many numbers there are

Example: Find the mean. 1,4,5,7,8

Median To find the median: 1. put the numbers in order 2. find the middle number What if two numbers share the middle? Add them together and divide by 2.

Your turn! Find the median: 3,4,2,7,6 3,2,4,7,6,5

Mode MODE shows up the MOST! Ex: 3, 4, 5, 3, 5, 7, 3, 6 Find the mode!

You try! Find the mean, median and mode for each set of data: 13,14,19,21 3) 24,25,26,21,21 2,4,8,6,4 4) 7,7,8,8,9,6,7,6
