KRISHNA UNIVERSITY MACHILIPATNAM SPORTS BOARD

Sports Board, Krishna University came into existence in July 2011 and it functions under the Chairmanship of Prof.V.Venkiah, Vice-Chancellor, Krishna University. The Sports Board, KRU, has been able to carve out a name for itself among the high achievers in the field of sports and games, mostly by the impressive support it has enjoyed from several quarters, the most important of them being the University Administration. Periodically the Sports Board comes up with a lot of well meaning suggestions to be considered by the University authorities to foster sports talents, most of which have been well received The Sports Board co-ordinates and regulates the Sports activities of the affiliated Colleges spread over in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh., numbering 145 as on date. It also organizes the annual programmes including the following: a) Inter-Collegiate Tournament for Men & Women b) Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet for Men & Women

Another important activity of the Sports Board is making the affiliated colleges to participate in the Inter-University tournaments organized by the Association of Indian Universities. The Sports Board also carry out the following activities: a) Selection trials for University teams in 36 disciplines of Sports and games meant for both men &women. We take utmost care in team selection for varsity meets. We have selection committees with experts in the panel and only merit gets priority. b) The initial selection is followed by coaching camps, depending upon the nature of the games by utilizing the services of expert Physical Directors from affiliated Colleges, coaches from Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh and Sport Authority of India. c) Sending various contingents to different venues for the Inter University tournaments organized by the Association of Indian Universities by appointing suitable coaches and managers to train and accompany the teams.

ORGANIZATION OF SOUTH ZONE INTER UNIVERSITY TENNIS (M) TOURNAMENT. One of the recent achievements of the Sports Board is the organization of South Zone Inter University Tennis (Men) tournament allocated to the University by the Association of Indian Universities,. Upon consideration of the dynamism of the Administrators of the Krishna University, in spite of several constraints, the Sports Board has succeeded in organization of the South Zone Inter University Tennis Men Tournament at Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada from January 17 th to 21 st,2013 with a great success. Totally 39 Universities had taken part in this event. On this Occasion, our sincere thanks to the Management of Andhra Loyola College, Principal, Staff and Department of Physical Education for providing play facilities, accommodation to the participants and Team officials and extending their whole hearted co-operation. On this occasion, our special thanks to Sri G.Ganga Raju garu, Chairman, Laila Group of Companies for donating Rs.50,000/-to organize this mega event. Also our special thanks to the affiliated colleges Management and Principals for permitting their Physical Directors in the organization of this mega event very successfully. RESULTS First Place : University of Madras, Chennai Second Place : Anna University, Chennai Third Place : SRM University,Kattankulathur(Chennai) Fourth Place : Andhra University, Visakhapatnam * PHYSICAL EDUCATION PERSONNEL(Physical Directors) at Colleges. out of 145 affiliated Colleges, we have only 28 Lecturers/Physical Directors. Govt.Colleges – 05,Aided Colleges – 13, Un Aided Colleges 10

ACHIVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE AT INTER UNIVERSITY LEVEL. During academic year, our University had sent as many as 34University teams for both South Zone/All India Inter University tournaments held at various parts of the Nation..The University Vice-Chancellor Prof.Venkiah garu and Registrar Prof.D.Suryachandra Rao garu did a good thing by enhancing the budget for the second year from Rs.12.0 lakhs to 20.0 lakhs, thus helping potential medal winning teams to undergo intensive training at the camps. Games and Sports like Archery, Weight lifting, Boxing and Athletics have made tremendous improvement, quality wise this year.Mr.K.V.Suresh,Gymnast Final B.Com student of SRR&CVR Govt.Degree College, Vijayawada secured Gold Medal in Pommel Horse event at All India Inter University Gymnastics Championship held at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.

Women weight lifterMiss.J.Pallavi and Power Lifter Miss.SK.Nageena of SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala,Vijayawada who stood in 4 th positions in their weight categories, at All India Inter University Weight and Power Lifting Competitions held at M.L.S.University,Udaipur.These two lifters missed their medals very narrowly.Mr.Ch.V.V.L.Raghavendra Rao,Boxer,who has shown better performance and reached semi final round in his Weight category. Our University Archers were also did their best and reached the final rounds. They also missed their medals with a marginal score. Over all the performance of the University teams was good at Inter University Tournaments. During this academic year( ) our University authorities allocated Rs lakhs for Sports and Games in the University Budget..This is a big amount and the sports budget was raised from Rs.20.0 lakhs to Rs.25.0 lakhs for this academic year. For your information there are 13 new universities permitted by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in 2008.Ours is the only University allotting this much budget,fielding more than 34 university teams to Inter- university competitions, honoring meritorious sportsmen and IUT medalists with cash awards.

The Association of Indian Universities has entrusted the responsibility to our University to organize South Zone Inter University Kabaddi (Women) tournament during this academic year. We have to organize this event in first week of November On behalf of all the Lectures in Physical Education of the affiliated colleges,we are grateful and thankful to our Honorable Vice-Chancellor Pro. Vunnam Venkiah garu for his great support and encouragement. My sincere thanks to Prof.D.Sryachandra Rao garu,Registrar, Krishna University for his co-operation and guidance through- out the academic year. I also thank all the other University teaching, Non-Teaching staff and Sports Board members for their excellent co- operation. My special thanks to all the Principals of the affiliated Colleges, who extended a good support and co-operation in organizing the Inter –Collegiate tournaments cum University team selections and coaching camps at their Colleges. I close my report by expressing my hope and wish that we would continue to enjoy everyones support and co-operation in keeping the flag of Krishna University flying always the highest.
