Welcome back ~Mrs. Sampson~ Please return to your seats from yesterday. You need everything for periods 1-3. Please take out any forms and review agenda on side board.

Today’s Agenda Homework is out on the corner of your desk 2. Activator: Silently count and then write in your agenda -How many boys are in this class -How many girls are in this class 3. Classwork: Introduce Eureka Math’s Ratio and Proportions Lesson 1 4. Homework: Lesson Set 1 (#s1-2 only) Million Words Class expectations Missing binders and notebooks

September 4, 2014 [Day F] SWBAT: write a ratio to represent a situation and write a situation to represent a ratio.

-a pair of nonnegative numbers, A:B -both are not zero Vocabulary Ratio -a pair of nonnegative numbers, A:B -both are not zero -order of the pair of numbers in a ratio matters Ex. 3:2 or 3 to 2 -used to indicate that there is a relationship between two quantities such that when there are A units of one quantity, there are B units of the second quantity A ratio is always a pair of numbers such as 2:3. It is never a pair of quantities such as 2cm: 3 sec. Keep track of the units in a word problem separately. Ratio relationships describe phrase in a word problem tht indicates a ratio. Ex. A ratio relationship is “3 cups to 4 cups,” or “5 miles in 4 hours.” The ratios would be 3:4 or 5:4 -Describe a phrase in a word problem to indicate a ratio Ex. 5 miles in 4 hours (ratio 5:4 or 5 to 4) Ratio relationship

September 4, 2014 [Day F] Suppose the ratio of the number of boys to the number of girls on the team is 3:2.

number of boys to the number of girls September 4, 2014 [Day F] number of boys to the number of girls 3:2

September 4, 2014 [Day F] I can’t say there are 3 times as many boys as girls. What would my multiplicative value have to be? There are_________ as many boys as girls.   “three halves” Multiplicative comparison: “Max has three times as many toy cars as Jack”

September 4, 2014 [Day F]

September 4, 2014 [Day F] 1. You traveled out of state this summer. 2. You did not travel out of state this summer. 3. You have at least on sibling. 4. You are an only child. 5. Your favorite class is math. 6. Your favorite class is not math.

September 4, 2014 [Day F] My own ratio compares __________________. the number of students wearing glasses to the number of students not wearing glasses 5 : 16 My ratio is: _______________ the number of baseball players with children to the number of baseball players without children

September 4, 2014 [Day F] EXIT TICKET: write the answers in your notebook Write a ratio for the following description: Kaleel made three times as many basket as John during basketball practice. Describe a situation that could be modeled with the ratio 4:1. Write a ratio of the following description: For every 6 cups of flours in a bread recipe, there are 2 cups of milk. HOMEWORK: Problem Set #1-2 (page S.3)

In your agenda please copy tonight’s homework and leave out for me to stamp Math: Problem Set 1 (#s 1-2) Million Words due 9/19 Class expectations due 9/10 need notebook and binder by 9/4 Science: worksheet English: summer reading Social Studies: none Picture day Monday
