How to finish CW strongly L/O: To grab maximum marks when concluding my coursework Starter: Read through the example of a conclusion. Annotate it as a class to show why it is poor.

In the box below is an example of a poor conclusion for a case study in England. Annotate this to show what has gone wrong and what is missing For my second hypothesis I investigated whether the environment in Chislehurst really was better than in Downham. To answer this question I have created graphs and displays from Primary and Secondary data. I found that my primary and secondary both agreed that Chislehurst had a better environment than Grove Park. This was because GP was really littered and Chislehurst was lovely and clean. This evidence is clear to see in my pie chart and my pictogram on environment. Chislehurst has a better environment than Grove Park because there is more green and open space. This allows for a more relaxing atmosphere. This is not surprising when you look at the History of both areas! So in conclusion I agree with my key question, Chislehurst is best!

Why is a conclusion vital? Conclusion and evaluation (max 12) Level 1 1-4 marks Level 2 5-8 marks Level 3 9-12 marks Conclusion Evaluation .States superficial conclusions showing tenuous (weak) links to the original aims. Simple evaluation showing little awareness of any Shortcomings (problems with investigation). States tentative (fair) conclusions linked to the original aims. Some judgements linked to information collected. Some evaluation of a limited range of weaknesses States clear conclusions in the light of the aims, clearly related to evidence collected. Makes a sound evaluation identifying weaknesses and suggesting improvement.

Your Conclusion Guide Your Conclusion should be in 5 sections, one section for each key question For each of these 5 key questions sections there are the 5 basic steps you should follow START OFF EACH SECTION OF YOUR CONCLUSION BY RESTATING YOUR Key Question! (This could just be a heading!) e.g. Step 1 My third key question was ‘Does Triana have better access to services than Tomares?’

I also used Primary Data photos to show . . . . . . Step 2 Discuss your Primary Results for that hypothesis (should have 2 sets) Summarise what your Primary results were about and what they showed. (Use the keywords when explaining as this will help you to gain extra marks) e.g. When investigating access to services I used primary data and compared the number of high, medium and low order shops in Triana and Tomares in a bar chart. My results clearly showed that Triana has more high order services that Tomares. I also used Primary Data photos to show . . . . . .

Step 3 Discuss your Secondary Results for that hypothesis (should have 1 set) Summarise what your Secondary results were about and what they showed – can you add graphs? HERE YOU MAY HAVE TO DO EXTRA RESEARCH INTO THIS DEPENDING ON YOUR BACKGROUND INFORMATION QUALITY e.g. When investigating access to services I used secondary data and compared the number of high order restaurants in Triana and Tomares in two pie charts. My results clearly showed that Triana has more high order restaurants than Tomares.

Step 4 Now you must compare your Primary and Secondary Data and decide whether you agree with your key question or not. IMPORTANT! You must agree with your results! e.g. As my results clearly show, Triana does have better access to services than Tomares. I have reached this conclusion because both my primary and secondary data agree that Triana has the higher order services, the better restaurants and the most attractive shops shown in my photos. OR I conclude that Triana has better access to services than Tomares. I am aware that my Primary data contradicts my secondary data however I have decided to agree with secondary data because . . . . .

Step 5 The final part! Now you have decided which area has the best services explain in detail how this would affect quality of life. (If you can link in any background information here and/or your land use models then that will mean extra marks!) The fact that Triana has better access to services than Tomares means that the quality of life in Triana will be higher. Triana locals will have a choice of high quality restaurants . . . . . . . (Land Use Model Link: The housing in both areas shows that the Concentric/Hoyt Model would/would not be appropriate . . . .

Conclusions due date Your conclusions are due in in full on Tuesday November 11th 2014.
