Aim: What motivated Europeans to explore the Americas?

Triangular sails - Arabs What’s it used for?

Magnetic Compass - Chinese What’s it used for?

Astrolabe - Muslims What’s it used for?

Write this: Triangular sails, the compass, and the astrolabe were technologies and instruments used by Europeans during the Age of Exploration to set out on journeys.

Spain and Portugal are located on the Iberian Peninsula.

1453 – Muslim Turks controlled main trade routes to India and Asia. Muslims taxed the trade routes heavily.

Portuguese began looking for new trade route to India by sailing around Africa 1498 – Vasco da Gama sailed around Africa to India

1492 – Columbus set sail from Spain hoping to reach India, but landed in the Canary Islands(Bahamas).

After conquering the Caribbean area, Spaniards turned interest to the mainland. Three motives for conquest developed: GOLD, GLORY, & GOD
