Warm Up On a sheet of paper, answer the following questions. You have 10 minutes. I will collect this paper from you. What do you think people living a hundred years from now will call the age we live in today? Will they say we lived in the space age, the age of computers, the age of anxiety, the age of violence or something else? Explain your answer. In The Time Machine, H.G. Wells described a world where the difference between the “haves” and the “have-nots” has actually evolved into two different species of man. This is a rather frightening prediction. What aspect of our society today do you think might evolve into something frightening?

Agenda Begin Renaissance Unit Read about the Renaissance and create your own study guide. Explore some sonnets & poetry Write your own sonnet

What do you already know? Renaissance

Renaissance Unit Test Why are the subjects of love, death, and nature so prevalent in Renaissance poetry and drama? How does Renaissance literature reflect the changes in the culture and the technological advances of the period?

Create your own study guide When reading informational text with subheadings, you should turn each subheading into a question and then look for the answer to that question. For example: How were Ancient Greece and Rome rediscovered? What was the Spirit of Rebirth? Try it on your own. Before you read, create questions out of each of the subheadings. Then, answer your questions. This is due by the end of class.
