Good literacy instruction is good for all students

Curriculum is only a resource There is not a reading program or instructional approach that does not require a knowledgeable teacher. Duke, Cervetti, and Wise (2015) reminded us that the teacher is what matters in literacy instruction: “It is the quality of the individual teacher’s practices, more than the specific materials or general approach the teacher uses, that influences students’ reading growth. The quality of a surgeon is not determined by the surgeon’s scalpel, nor is the quality of a carpenter determined by the carpenter’s tools. Tools matter, but they do not a surgeon or carpenter make.”

“NO ONE IS TOO ANYTHING TO BE ABLE TO READ AND WRITE.” DAVID YODER
