Modeling Multiplication of Fractions Chapter 2.1a – Lesson I can draw a model to show multiplication of fractions. 6.NS.1

What is 1 3 of 5 7 ? Let’s Practice! Math Problem Verbal Phrase 3 4 × 2 3 = ? 2 5 × 6 9 = ? What is 1 3 of 5 7 ?

Write out the math problem: Draw a Model: Count the number of double shaded squares that where formed. This number becomes the numerator of the answer. In the square provided, draw lines horizontally to split the square’s width into 4ths. Draw lines vertically to split the square’s length into 5ths. Shade 3 of the rectangles formed to depict 3/4. Shade 4 of the rectangles formed to depict 4/5. Count the total number of squares. This is the denominator of the answer.

Let’s Practice! 1 5 × 2 3

Let’s Practice! 2 4 × 3 5
