PURPOSE To establish and strengthen collaboration, cooperation and partnerships. To encourage all inclusive participatory culture within the LIS sector. Provide support in planning and organising library marketing activities. To improve efficiency, access and utilisation of libraries. Develop all inclusive calendar of events and year plan. Establish corporative structures to market libraries more efficiently and effectively. To determine the marketing platforms to be utilised in creating awareness. Crafting marketing strategies

PURPOSE Capacity building to market libraries more efficiently and effectively. Exploit the potential of new technologies to enhance our marketing endeavours. To assess the libraries environment and the importance of marketing library services. Social media strategies to promote libraries. Stakeholder engagement. Establish a working group to craft the library marketing plans and strategies.

A Vision Statement describes the desired future position of the company. LIS MARKETING STRATEGIES   LIASA: The Association that connects the LIS sector … LIASA Vision: Dynamic association of excellence for Library and Information Services Sector. LIASA Mission The association that connects the LIS sector and promotes the development of South Africa through access to information. LIASA Core values Providing leadership excellence to the LIS profession nationally and internationally. Ensuring professional conduct. Engaging in the highest ethical practice. Acknowledging and respecting the diversity and individuality of all people. Promote freedom of access to information as enshrined in the Constitution of South Africa Etc.

LIS MARKETING STRATEGIES   Objectives: The objectives are aligned with the conditional grant framework namely: Improved library infrastructure and services that reflect the specific needs of the communities they serve. Improved staff capacity at urban and rural libraries ICT connectivity and Public Internet Access in Libraries Reading programmes to inculcate the culture of reading in SA Promotion of the heritage collections Creating awareness and promote access to libraries Transformed and equitable library and information services delivered to all rural and urban communities;

LIS MARKETING STRATEGIES   Conditional Grant Library Marketing Initiatives National and International Commemorative Days. Literary events: Writers Symposia, Library Week Activities, World Book Day, Funda Mzansi Reading Festival, Reading Conference.

LIS MARKETING STRATEGIES   Other Conditional Grant Library Marketing Initiatives The NLSA has developed a Public and Community Libraries Portal funded though the DAC Conditional Grant. The portal is aimed to promote the visibility and optimal access to library and information services. The project is intended to support the development goals through the effective collection, use and sharing of data within the library sector. It maps the location, highlight the activities, and provides the contact details of public and community libraries in South Africa. The rationale of the geo-mapping project is to promote optimal accessibility, enable users, potential users, researchers and government officials to locate public libraries with ease.

South African Libraries   According to the research done during the drafting of the SA LIS Policy process 2017, the current library statistics are as follows:: 3318 functional school libraries out of 23,577 schools. 1364 Public Libraries 26 University Libraries. 50 Technical, Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Colleges comprising of 264 Campuses. 8 Research & Science Councils. 243 Correctional Services Libraries. National Library of South Africa (NLSA), SA Library for the Blind & South African Library of Parliament. Five Legal deposit libraries.
