Warm-Up: What do you believe? JOURNAL: Respond by jotting down points, writing sentences, or in another format. What do you believe (in)? Include at least five different beliefs you have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq7_SKjBIXo

Credo Definition A credo is a set of beliefs that drives thoughts and behaviors. A personal credo is one which is created by the individual, and not just one accepted from other people The word “credo” comes from Latin, and literally means, “I believe.”

Personal Affirmation Many successful people use a customized personal affirmation. They think very seriously about the kind of person they want to be, write it down and then read it aloud at least once a day. This guides everything they do in life and moves them daily towards the life they want.

Religion One common source of a creed is religion. Many people have a favorite verse in their holy book that guides them in their daily living.

Quote Some people use a well-known quote, phrase from literature, poetry, or music, that they find a powerful guide to living. They might see a quote as their philosophy of life and way of thinking.

Wise Words from People Sometimes the impact on us of what someone says is so profound that it can change us and the we live forever. These could be the words of a parent, sibling, or other family member, a friend, a mentor, a boss, a teacher, a coach, etc.

Inner Conviction Like Mother Teresa, you may have had one of those crystal clear revelations that tell you without a shadow of a doubt what you must do with your life.

Personal Credo/This I Believe For this piece you will be focused on your beliefs about yourself, your culture, and your world. You might choose to write about one belief and how you came to have it, or you might choose to write a list essay of many beliefs. Reading this piece should provide you with a strong sense of self and a strong sense of purpose in your life.

Personal Credo/This I Believe Decide on your format – Credo list or expanded Belief. Use the examples as models – imitate what you like. Make sure you have a good hook! Explain yourself for support. Length should be around one page.
