Welcome to 7th Grade Science Make a name tag (You have 6 minutes) Folding your paper in half (Hamburger style) Open your paper Fold the left side into the center line Fold the right side into the center line Keep it folded and make a tent Using marker write the name you would like to be called on both sides .

1. Attention When I say, You say, and you will give me your FULL attention. “CLASS!”… “YES?” YES? CLASS!

Phrase of the Week CLASS…YES is BOARING!! Would you like to come up with you own? EX: I would say SQUIREL …and you would say WHERE? TIME: You have 3 minutes to write on scrap paper as many appropriate phrase that you can. PAIR: Pair up with your table partners SHARE: Begin with partner #1 and share, then #2 and share etc. Put your ideas in the Phrase of the Week Bucket

2. Classroom Rules: RESPECT You have 3 minutes to… Partner A Read Rule 1 to Partner B Both A and B write the rule in your notes. Partner B explain 2 reasons the rule is important in this class Switch roles for rule 2 Follow Directions Quickly! Rule 1. Rule 2. Rule 3. Rule 4. Raise Your Hand for Permission to Speak. Make Smart choices! Keep your teacher Happy!

3. Interaction We will have a ton of interaction in pairs and groups using Kagan and other group Strategies. It is VERY important that you FOLLOW DIRECTIONS QUICKLY and MAKE SMART CHOICES or you will be given an alternative assignment.

Mix - Freeze The music will start and you will walk around the room and NOT talk When the music stops you find the closest person to you ( not your best friend) The topic will appear on the Smart Board You will have 30 sec to 1 min of think time. DO NOT TALK…just THINK The teacher will determine who shares first You will have 30 sec to share Switch

4. Score Board Student Teacher At the end of the week if the students beat the teacher each student will be rewarded with a piece of candy. If the teacher wins she get To keep the candy!

REWARD?? If your class has the most purple sticks at the end of the quarter they are rewarded. What would you like to your reward to be? Remember to be Realistic! Think (ON OWN) – What would you like to be rewarded with if your class wins? (Timer 30 sec) 2. Write (ON OWN) – Take out a note card and write your thoughts on your note card. (Timer 2 min) 3. Round Robin (Group) – Beginning with #1 share your ideas with your group. (Timer 2 min) 4. Put them in the Reward Box

Setting up Your 3 Ring Binder Timer (Set 10-15 min) Put your name on the spine of your folder (use Duct tape and a permanent marker.) 2. You need 10 dividers (5 manila folders) 3 hole punch all of them Fill out two of them and put ALL of them in your 3 Ring Binder Your Name Second in 3 ring First in 3 ring Science Vocabulary Scientific Method

Head Phones Continued Timer (10-12 min) Continued Timer (Set 10-15 min) Put your NAME and HOUR on a zip bag using Duct tape and a permanent marker. 2. Put your head phones in the zip lock bag 3. Put the bag with head phones in the correct bin. Continued Timer (10-12 min) Name and Hour

In order to accomplish this in one minute you need a PLAN! 6. Procedures (Folders) Coming into the classroom Get three ring Sit Down Start Daily Science Leaving the classroom (You have one minute to have this done) timer bell rings Put up all supplies in correct bin Put up three ring binder in your cabinet - NEATLY! Sit down and QUIET! In order to accomplish this in one minute you need a PLAN! Think – take 45 sec on your own and come up with a plan for your table Pair – Pair up with your group Share – Begin with person #3 and share your idea (3 min) Come up with one plan. (2 min)

7. Daily Science Daily Science begins when the bell rings You will need a white board and a dry erase marker. You will be using a Kagan Strategy called Rally Coach Each Friday you will have a quiz over the question that we covered during the week.

9. Group Work Group work is a fun way to accomplish a job that could otherwise be boring. It is a to work in a group! privilege Do YOUR Part!

10. Homework If you do not get done with class work it becomes . Assignments missing at the end of the week grading period will receive a homework three Zero.

11. Make up work You have one day for everyday you missed to make up work If you are gone check the Wall to see what you missed.

12. Academic Dishonesty If you get caught cheating (opinion of the teacher) you will get a zero on that assignment. I know it is tempting, I will do everything I can to remove the temptation!

13. Scientist of the Week One 7th grader each week. Must have all work turned in No ISS or OSS Soda at the end of the week and the teacher chair for the week.
