Levels of Organization Flash Cards

Directions Add the label/info to the front of the flashcard for each level of organization. The second slide has the notes you will write on the back of the flashcard. Make sure you use bullets and that you write the notes exactly as they are given.

heart cell Cell

Cells First level of organization. An individual cell that is specialized and performs a specific function.

heart tissue: many heart cells

Tissues Second Level Group of cells that work together to perform a specific job.

heart: muscle & nerve tissue Organ

Organs Third Level Two or more tissues that work together to perform a specific job.

cardiovascular (circulatory) system: heart & blood vessels Organ System

Organ Systems Fourth Level Group of organs working together to perform a specific function. Organs in the system depend on each other. Failure of one organ will cause system to fail.

human organism Organism

Organisms Human body functions because of the contributions of all 4 levels of organization. Organ systems depend on each other. Failure of one system can cause failure of the organism. Ex: Circulatory (cardiovascular) system and respiratory system work together to get oxygen to cells.
