Animations & Transitions MOAC Lesson 9

Transitions The movement from one slide to the next (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014) Can only be applied to a slide, not an object on a slide By default, slides do not have transitions applied to them Some (not all) transitions have effect options

Transitions Duration: An animation setting that determines how long an animation effect should take to execute (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014) Audio, which are sound clips (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012), can be applied to transitions The user can choose other files stored on the computer to be the audio for the transitions Through transitions, the presentation can be set so that it advances to the next slide on its own (self-running presentation)

Animations Applies motion effects to individual objects (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) Animations Tab

4 Types of Animation: Entrance: An animation effect that determines how an object appears on a slide (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) Exit Effect: An animation effect that determines how an object leaves a slide (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012)

4 Types of Animation Emphasis Effect: An animation effect that draws attention to an object on a slide that is neither entering nor exiting the slide (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) Typically used to draw attention to certain objects that are already on a slide Motion Path: An animation effect that moves an object along a predefined path that you create for it (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012)

Animation Options The duration of animated objects can be changed Increasing the duration will slow down the animation Delay: The animation setting that specifies how long the effect should pause before it begins (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014) Start Animation Options On Click – starts with a mouse click With Previous – Starts at the same time as the other animation(s) (no mouse click) After Previous – starts after the previous object has been animated

Animation Pane A pane that enables you to manage all the animation effects on the active slide (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014)

Animation Painter A feature that copies animation settings from one object to another (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2014) Similar to Format Painter Double Clicking will keep the animation painter turned on until the Escape key is pressed

Use Animation Sparingly! Your audience can become very distracted with “fancy” animation The focus should be on your content

Adding Audio Audio can be inserted on a slide from Office.com or your computer Audio File formats supported by PowerPoint: WAV, AIFF, AU, MIDI, MP3, and WMA (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) Audio files can be recorded and placed on a slide

Adding Video Video can be inserted on a slide from the computer, Internet, and Office.com

Video Poster Frame: Image that displays on a slide when the video clip is not actively playing (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012)
