Do it now You will find your do it now task in your workbook – look for the start button! Sunday, 19 May 2019

Learning Objective “What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience?” You will find differentiated outcomes for this lesson on the front of your workbook. Sunday, 19 May 2019

What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience Talk Task Watch SWF file here Type IP address into google – what comes up? Why do you think this is? whatismyipaddress.com An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a number, like a telephone number, that is used by computers to refer to each other when sending and receiving information through the internet. An example of an IP address is: 74.125.79.103. Watch 'find_your_ip_address.swf' to learn how to find your computer's IP address, then have a go. Can you find the IP address of the computer you are working at now?  When you surf the internet your computer leaves a trail that can be picked up later. There are ways in which a user can hide their IP address. Why might someone want to do this? Add your IP address to your workbook What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience

What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience New learning As a digital detective, you need to know a little about browsers. Browsers are the means by which you access the internet. There are many browsers to choose from and just as many different opinions about which is best! Some users prefer just one interface, others prefer to use various programs, while other people look for the security features that a browser offers. Write up your findings in workbook What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience

Learning development Watch browser security SWF Make a list of advantages and disadvantages of changing your browser security settings. Browser Security Settings There are different security options that a user can control from the browser. A low security level will allow most programs to work but may leave the computer open to malicious software – sometimes called malware. Higher settings will give more protection but may mean some programs don't work. Watch 'set_your_browser_security.swf' to learn how to control browser security settings in Internet Explorer. Now it's your turn. Open up the security options on your browser and choose an appropriate level of protection. Remember to save the changes you make! Sunday, 19 May 2019

Independent Task Complete the independent task in your workbook. Write a report which compares browsers and offers advice to a company that is considering using an alternative to Internet Explorer. Try to look at the facilities available and the possible needs of the company. The report could even include the history of browsers, describing, for example, the disappearance of the browser Netscape. What is a browser and how do security settings effect user experience
