Aim: How do we explain energy?

List as many types of energy as you can think of List as many types of energy as you can think of. Nuclear Energy, Electrical Energy, Electromagnetic Energy, Thermal Energy, Sound, Chemical Energy

Energy Energy is defined as the ability to do work.

Conservation of Energy In a closed system, the total amount of energy will not change. Energy may change form but it cannot be created or destroyed.

Identify input and output forms of energy for the following: Lawn Mower (Input: Electrical, Chemical, Work on Mower) (Output:: Thermal Energy, Work on Grass, Sound) 2. Tv Set (Input: Electrical, Electromagnetic (Radio), Work on button) (Output: Electromagnetic (Visible), Sound, Thermal Energy 3. Mechanical Pencil Sharpener (Input: Work on Handle) (Output: Work on Pencil, sound, thermal energy)

Mechanical Energy Two types of mechanical energy: Kinetic Energy Potential Energy We will encounter two types of mechanical potential energy Gravitational Potential Energy Elastic Potential Energy

Kinetic Energy KE = ½ mv2 KE = kinetic energy m = mass v = speed The energy associated with an object based on its motion.
