What is EMAIL? Messages that are distributed by electronic means from one computer user to another or more recipients through a network.

What is Social Media? Computer-mediated technologies that allow the creating and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression through virtual communities and networks.

What is Etiquette? The familiar code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group. Examples: greeting someone before asking them what you need closing remarks using proper grammar/spelling, using “please” and “thank you” “Break a leg” being used in theatre to wish someone good luck

Salutation A remark made as a greeting or acknowledgment of another's arrival or departure. Examples: Hello, good morning/afternoon/evening, dear, warm regards, all the best, best wishes

serious, neutral, happy, rude, aggressive, apologetic, respectful Tone The general character or attitude of a place, piece of writing, situation, etc. Examples: serious, neutral, happy, rude, aggressive, apologetic, respectful

Formal Etiquette Done in a manner conforming with the rules of proper social behavior; suitable for or part of an official or important situation or occasion. Examples: emailing your boss/co-worker emailing a client maintaining a professional social media account

Having a relaxed, friendly, or unofficial style, manner, or nature. Informal Etiquette Having a relaxed, friendly, or unofficial style, manner, or nature. Examples: chatting with a friend or family member on Facebook messenger sending a friend a snap sending a funny video to a friend/family member

Anatomy of an Email

Assignment Respond to two of the scenarios found on Mrs. Quick’s website and post your responses to your blog. State the best tone of voice to take when writing your responses. Your responses must also include a salutation and closing if it is an email response. Each response must be at least 150 characters but no more than 300.
