Injury Notes

Minor injuries Cramp – spasm or sudden tightening of a muscle… causes include overworked or dehydrated tissue Strain - overworked muscle group… causes include a lack of warm-up and an increase in intensity to a muscle group rarely worked Sprain – injury to tissues surrounding a joint.

Connectors Ligaments – connect bone to bone Tendons – connect muscle to bone

RICE – treatment for minor Rest – stay off injury Ice – reduces pain and swelling (20 min. on/off) Compress – light pressure and bandaging Elevate – raise the affected area above the heart

MAJOR injuries Fracture – any break in the bone Dislocation – when bone slips from a normal joint position Tendonitis – when tendons are stretched or torn from overuse Concussion – temporary disturbance of brain’s ability to function
