PARTS OF SPEECH REVIEW: NOUNS A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing or an idea. There are several different categories of nouns:  Common.

Appositive Phrase A noun phrase IDENTIFYING a noun (person, place or thing) in the sentence. Often begin with articles (a, an, the). Answers the question WHO? or WHAT? A gorgeous young woman, she could have been a movie star. I packed my bag for the triathlon, an event that would prove my training was worth it.
