1. What was the “woman question” in 1900? 2. What three things did women want? 3. What was the argument of those who were against this? 4. What were three advances that made women’s work in the home easier and gave some free time?

5. How were department stores different from general stores? 6. What was rural free delivery and how did it benefit those in the Midwest? 7. What were mail-order catalogs? Give two examples.

8. Describe four things about women in the workplace in the late 1800s. 9. What was domestic work like? (5 things) 10. What stereotype did American society have of women in the late 1800s? 11. What jobs were available to women?

12. Why did many join women’s clubs? 13. What did many of these women’s clubs do? 14. How did women’s hair and clothing change? 15. How did dating and marriage customs change?

Essay Imagine you are a woman living in the late 1800s. In 200 words explain how your life has changed and the opportunities that are now available to you as well as the limitations that still exist.
