Presentation transcript:

Remote Sensing

Remote Sensing This is the process of collecting data about Earth far above Earth’s surface Satellites detect different wavelengths of energy reflected or emitted from Earth’s surface This is electromagnetic radiation

Landsat Satellites This receives reflected wavelengths of energy emitted by the earth’s surface The images show up in different colors depending upon the warmth of the feature

Topex/Poseidon Satellite Use a radar to show features on the ocean floor Uses high frequency signals that are transmitted from the satellite to the surface of the ocean

The Global Positioning System This is a radio-navigation system of at least 24 satellites that allow its users to determine their exact location on Earth The satellites can determine the exact latitude and longitude of the person

Sea Beam This is also used to map the ocean floor except it is located on a ship Sea beam uses sonar, the use of sound beams
