Percent Composition Example 1: Calculate the percent composition of oxygen in a molecule of water. Step 1:Find the molar mass of water. 18.02 g/mol Step 2: Use the “Mass Percent” equation to solve. Mass percent = 16.00 g/mol O ______________ X 100 = 88.79% O 18.02 g/mol H2O
