How do we know if art is good or bad? The Feldman Model of Art Criticism Description – “What do you see?” Analysis – “How is it arranged?” Interpretation – “What does it mean?” Judgment – “Is it significant?”

Think – Pair – Share Find a person with the correct card (for example, a card that is the same color as yours). This person is your partner. Decide who goes first (for example, the tallest person). This is Person A. Person A talks while Person B listens. Person B CAN’T talk, unless to ask 1 question for clarification. Then you switch. Person B talks, while Person A listens.

Look at this Painting Find a partner with the same color card as you. The tallest person goes first. Talk for one minute about what you see in this painting. Describe it to your partner. Person B can repeat and add to what Person A said. Pablo Picasso. Mother and Child, 1922.

Thank you! Person A tell Person B: “Thank you for listening.” Person B tell Person A: “Thank you for sharing.” 

What kinds of lines do you see? Find a partner with a warm color card (yellow, red, orange). The person with the closest birthday goes first. Talk for one minute about what kinds of lines Picasso used in this painting. Person B can repeat and add to what Person A said. Pablo Picasso. Mother and Child, 1922.

Thank you! Person A tell Person B: “Thank you for listening.” Person B tell Person A: “Thank you for sharing.” 

What is going on in the painting? Find a person with a card that is the complementary color of yours (opposite on the color wheel – orange/blue, yellow/purple, red/green) The person with the most siblings goes first. Talk for one minute about what you think is going on in the painting. For example, why is the lady holding the child? Person B can repeat and add to what Person A said. Pablo Picasso. Mother and Child, 1922.

Thank you! Person A tell Person B: “Thank you for listening.” Person B tell Person A: “Thank you for sharing.” 

Do you like this painting? Find a person with the color card that is the analogous color of yours on the color wheel (see color wheel on back door). Talk for one minute : Do you like this painting? Why or why not? Person B can repeat and add to what Person A said. Pablo Picasso. Mother and Child, 1922.
