10th Grade Week 3 Agenda & Obj. 9/16-9/20 Monday: Narrative Writing 10.7.3.3 Write narratives and other creative texts develop real or imagined experiences using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. (a-e). Tuesday-Thursday: Vocab & Inference & Author’s purpose 10. Vocab standard 10.5.1.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences… 10.5.2.2 Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text… 10.5.10.10 By the end of grade 10, read and comprehend literary nonfiction…self-select texts for personal enjoyment, interest, and academic tasks. Monday: Computer Lab/Narrative Type up your narrative adding the detail and show language you came up with in class and for homework. Use your time wisely in the lab! Please don’t abuse the computers or unhook the mouse or keyboards. When I give the 10 min warning: If you’re finished with your essay, print it AND e-mail it to me as an attachment. If you’re not finished, e-mail it to yourself as an attachment and finish it tonight. Close out of everything, log off, clean up your area, and line up at the door. Daily Writing: Mean as a Snake 09/17/13 Similes and metaphors are two ways of making comparisons. Similes use “like” or “as” (He is as sly as a fox). Metaphors simply imply one thing is another (The world is a stage). Write a paragraph that uses as least 1 simile and 1 metaphor. Planner: Due tomorrow: Title: Current Events Sept. Wk 2 Bring in a picture that shows friendship.

Tuesday: Vocab & Pre-Reading Did you e-mail me your 2nd draft? For tomorrow, bring in your cornel notes on something in the news, and a picture that shows friendship. Go through OMM Vocab Chapter 1 Worksheet. Notebook title: OMM Vocab 1 Write the words and the definitions in your notebook. Quiz on words and reading on Monday. Journal title: OMM Friendship Brainstorming Take at least 5-10 mins to brainstorm and draft your friendship ad in your journal. Create your ad on a separate piece of construction paper. Present your ad.

Daily Writing: Social Media 09/18/13 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: Have you ever attacked someone or his/her ideas online? Write about what happened. If you’ve never attacked anyone, write about ideas you’d like to attack, and why.

Wednesday: OMM Hand in your current events HW. 2nd narrative drafts?? Present/post poster & picture. After watching the videos last week, what do we predict is Steinbeck’s purpose in writing Of Mice and Men? Journal Title: Steinbeck’s Purpose What do you think Steinbeck’s purpose was for writing OMM? As we read, take notes on details you think is important to author’s purpose. When we’re done reading, write a few sentences explaining if the details proved or disproved your prediction and how. Pass out books and start reading.

Silently read and work on your study guide questions. Remember, if you read ahead, please make sure you don’t spoil anything for others!

Peer Grade (turn it in before you leave): On a separate piece of paper write each editor’s name, a grade for them, and a justification for the grade. YOU will be graded on your honest detailed explanation.
