Crossover question How do the female characters in “The Proposal” and “The Choice” view the idea of love? Support your answer with evidence from the selections. Use RACE or ABC format

View of Love Poet Natalya

Possible answer The female characters in the two pieces have a different view of love. Natalya views it as a matter of societal necessity, the poet views it as a choice of the heart having little to do with what others think.

Possible answer The female characters in the two pieces have a different view of love. Natalya views it as a matter of societal necessity, the poet views it as a choice of the heart having little to do with what others think. Natalya is saying, “What a rascal! What trust can one have in one's neighbors after that!” about Lomov and the next moment wanting to marry him “Yes,…yes, I’m willing.” The poet on the other hand was not following what society thought as she knew they would want to “examine her head” but her heart “Never a thought for another” and “gaily” followed the whistling, strong, but less than wealthy man. Clearly one made the choice based on her feelings, while the other fell for what others thought was best for her, the “idea of being married.”

Copy the following quote on a separate piece of paper 2/2/12 “The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers”

Copy the following in Notes: Expository Essay Introduction is the first paragraph – get reader’s attention (Truism) and contain a thesis statement or main idea of the essay. Example 2: In my own life, my father faced the challenge of raising eight children alone after his wife died. Many people tried to get him to separate his children among his friends; but he faced the challenge and worked hard to support his family and provide them with an education. His example of courage and wisdom inspired his children to face their challenges as well.

Through overcoming their challenges, Moses led the people to the promise land, and my father led his children to successful independent lives. Challenges will come, facing them and overcoming them develops success and wisdom in your life.

What an expository essay IS NOT: It is not a personal narrative (a story about you.) It is not written as a personal opinion. (I think……)

What an expository essay IS: Expository essays are simply essays that explain something with facts, as opposed to opinion. Samples of expository essays include: Essays that described how to do something. Essays that analyze or explain events, ideas, objects, or written works. Essays that describe a process. Essays that explain/describe an historical event. An expository essay should have the same basic structure as any typical essay, with an introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, and a summary. The length of your essay can vary, according to context. The introductory paragraph will contain the thesis sentence, and the topic of the thesis should be grounded in fact. The thesis statement must assert your point, suggest your evidence, and structure your argument, all in one. This is necessary for a good reason. If you can summarize your paper in one sentence, you’re more likely to have a tightly-constructed, concise, and readable essay.

Write an expository essay: Explain whether or not “love at first sight” is real love or lust? Thesis examples: Love is blind; it often sees beyond the appearance to the heart of an individual. Love at first sight is not love nor will it last. Examples: Kim Kardashian, my first crush, Tangle Love at first sight is the beginning of lasting love. It is that initial attraction that draws people together and begins a lasting relationship. Examples: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Cinderella, my in-laws
