Presentation transcript:

Procedure Notes Part 1: Making NaOH solution Use large glass bottles (only fill to 500 mL) The goal of the lab is to determine the exact molarity of this NaOH solution

Use analytical balances to weigh solid KHP

Procedure Notes How do you do a titration???? The goal is to add just enough base to react completely with the acid The reaction that happens as you titrate … Base of unknown moles Acid of known moles

Some other helpful tips Keep a waste beaker beneath the burette at all times when not titrating. Flush the burette with basic solution being used before the titration! Before each titration trial, make sure there is enough base to complete the titration AND record an initial volume reading. When nearing the endpoint, add extremely small volumes of base to get the lightest pink color possible (all moles of acid have reacted with all moles of base)

titration video Clean-Up Notes Wrap Para-Film© around your standardized NaOH to preserve it for future use. Rinse the burettes with distilled water several times and leave them in the burette clamp upside down.
