The world tomorrow Create a list of changes you expect to see by the year 2055. (at least 5 items) Discuss these changes with a partner.

Will and be going to For the most part will and be going to, they are interchangeable and mean the same thing. The only exception is when we use will to talk about a decision that was made at that instant. Be going to is used to talk about planned events. Note- be going to is FAR MORE COMMON in speech that will.

Simple present Meanings Use it to refer to programs, timetables, itineraries and public events that we have no direct control over. The plane leaves on the 20th. When does the film start? We leave on Saturday at 8:00 PM. The plane arrives in Rome at 8:30AM.

Present Progressive with future Meanings While the going to future form is often used to discuss intentions (possibly prearranged), the Present Progressive is used more for referring to solid arrangements and plans. For example, we are more likely to prefer this form when we have made a booking at a restaurant or theatre or have bought tickets for a train/plane journey. This tense is often accompanied by a time adverbial such as next month, in July etc. Next holiday we're staying in a five-star hotel. (the reservation has been made) They're all taking the day off on the 7th. I'm spending Christmas in the Bahamas. We’re traveling to Japan in August. We already bought our tickets.

To talk about two separate actions in the future, use will or be going to in the independent clause and the simple present in the dependent clause. independent clause Ex. We’ll rent/ we’re going to rent a car when we get to Italy. Dependent As soon as the class is over, I’m going to go shopping. When I get home, I’ll make a list. I’m going to watch a movie after I finish dinner. Which events are happening first?

Exercise 2 Remember, the teacher’s job is not to know everything about the English language. Future perfect What time did today’s class start? What time is it now? What time will the class end? We started class at 8:00, It is now______. Class will end at 11:30. So far, we have been in class for _____. By 11:30, we will have been in class for _____. The class is not over, but the last sentence describes what things will be like when class ends.

Future perfect We use the future perfect to show an action, state, or event that will happen before a certain time in the future. By the end of our trip, we will have seen a lot of wonderful things. You can also use the future perfect in the progressive. By the end of summer, we’ll have been traveling for several weeks. NOTE- we often use the future perfect with by and by the time. By the time we finish our trip, we’ll have visited 10 countries.
