LEARNING OBJECTIVES 23 – 08 - 2016 1. Explain basic electronic communication system. 2. Define Information and Communication Technology. 3. Highlight the importance of ICT. 4. Explain the meaning of ICT. Draw the wave form diagram of analogue and digital communication system. State the meaning of internet and explain its process.

7. Differentiation between analogue and digital system Give meaning of acronyms used in communication environment. Advantages and disadvantages (digital and analogue communication system) WISH YOU HAPPY LEARNING FROM MR. ISO

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY Information and Communication Technology is the process by which various electronic technology involves in the Storage, Transmission, Manipulation and Securely retrieve information Electronic Communication System is the arrangement of various electronic components on a circuit board, so as to give maximum output with the use of electricity.

CLASSES OF COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS There are two classes namely; Digital System Analogue System Digital Communication System It processes information in the form of coded numbers i.e Discrete digits ( 1’s and 0’s). It offers greater efficiency. It has a square wave form of transmission.

Advantages of Digital Technology Less expensive. Easy to manipulate. It is flexible. Compatible with other digital systems.

Disadvantages Sampling error. Sometimes quickness of digital communication is harmful as messages can be sent with the click of a mouse. It is unreliable as messages cannot be recognized by signatures software, it can easily be hacked. It has made the whole world to be an office.

Digital Communication system

Analogue Communication System It processes information in form of continuous signal, data transmission is done at a slow speed. It uses electrical impulses to emulate the audio waveform of sound. The signal used is Amplitude Modulation Radio signal. It has a sinusoidal wave form of transmission.

Advantages It is more easy to generate. Easy way for communication. Improved noise immunity and lower power consumption.

Disadvantages It is difficult to transmit. Devices are expensive. Accuracy is less.

Analogue Communication System

Comparison chart Analog versus Digital comparison chart Signal Analog signal is a continuous signal which represents physical measurements. Digital signals are discrete time signals generated by digital modulation. Waves Analog is denoted by sine waves Digital is denoted by square waves Representation Analog uses continuous range of values to represent information. Digital uses discrete or discontinuous values to represent information.

Common Terms For ICT GSM – Global System For Mobile Communication. MSC – Mobile Switching Center. LAs – Location Areas. VLR – Visitor Location Register. PLMN – Public Land Mobile Network. ISP – Internet Service Provider. WWW – World Wide Web. SIM – Subscriber Identification Modulus.

INTERNET It is a global networking of computers for interaction and exchanging of information. Merits of Internet E – commerce : it encourages trading on the internet.

2. E – mail services : it has improved the standard of sending and receiving mails. 3. E- chat : it enhances participation in group discussions. 4. E – learning : educational support and distance learning possible. 5. E – games : online computer games are played. 6. E – banking : withdrawing of money from the bank and transferring of money into another account.

Demerits of Internet Internet Fraud. Internet Addiction. Exposure to pornography. Impersonation. On – line gambling.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1 Draw the wave form of digital and analog signal Enumerate five equipment that can make ICT to be effective. Explain with the aid of diagram how communication transmission is process from the base station

ACTIVITY 2 Write fifteen acronyms and their full meanings use in Information and Communication Technology.
