Academic Vocabulary 1

Warm Up – 8/28/15 Complete in your notebook Define genre (on page 4 of your textbook) Identify and define the four genres from that page. Define media What are the three types of media?

Academic Vocabulary In your notebook, define ACADEMIC VOCABULARY found on page 16 of your textbook. Why is it important to understand how to use academic vocabulary? How can academic vocabulary help you in your other classes?

I will provide 1 sheet of copy paper Markers/ Colored Pencils/ Crayons What You Need I will provide 1 sheet of copy paper Markers/ Colored Pencils/ Crayons A RED literature book to use to look up your word.

Activity You will receive one academic vocabulary term. You will be responsible for creating a vocabulary poster for your word. Your poster must include: The term Definition A sentence that correctly uses the word. draw a picture of the word or what the word represents. ANALYZE for example, means to break something into its component parts. You could create a picture of a figure breaking a stick over its knees, block towers tumbling down, or unpacked Russian nesting dolls. That poster may be posted around the class.
