Absolute Value Notes 6.NS.7

What is absolute value? The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on a number line. Since absolute value is a distance an absolute value is NEVER be negative. The symbol for the absolute value of a number n is |n|.

Absolute Value |-2| and |2| is 2 DISTANCE IS ALWAYS POSITIVE ! The distance away a number is from 0 To show absolute value |#| -2 -1 0 1 2 |-2| and |2| is 2 DISTANCE IS ALWAYS POSITIVE !

Opposite of a number The opposite of 10 -10 The opposite of -10 10 To find the opposite of a number, negate (-) the number. The opposite of 10 -10 The opposite of -10 10 The opposite of the opposite of 10 -(-10)= 10

Find the absolute value |9| |-3| |0| -|27| -|-27| |-27|

Solve the following problems on your whiteboard Ordering and comparing integers 6.NS.6 & 6.NS.7

Order from least to greatest -7, 5, 0 , 3, -2

Order the following cities by their temperature Toronto -36 Houston 96 Los Angeles 75 Charlotte 83

Order these from least to greatest A bill for $37.13, A bill for $ 68.55, A refund for $1072.00

Order these numbers from greatest to least 400, -200, 0, |72|

When ordering from greatest to least, the value of the greatest integer would be…… -3, |4|, -(-5), -|6|

Kim recorded the outside temperature for four days Kim recorded the outside temperature for four days.  Which day had the warmest temperature?

Braiden is 20 feet below sea level Braiden is 20 feet below sea level. Write the integer that is the opposite of his elevation.

List the planets Average surface Temperature in order from least to greatest.

Which point on the number line represents the least integer?

Order the following cities by their temperature Seattle 70 Denver -10 Washington, D.C. 62 New York 53
