Mini-Lesson: Primary Documents and DBQ’S What is a Document Based Question? A Document based question is a type of short response, based upon a written or visual primary or document. (Photograph, diary). What is a primary document? A primary document is a source of understanding that we get from the past. The document has to be from the time period.
