What is it ? This means that through a method of IVF the embryo can be scanned for genetically passed down diseases and conditions before its implanted in the womb During the early stages of embryo development, cells from your embryos are analyzed for genetic abnormalities. By detecting gene problems before implantation, unhealthy or defective embryos can be discarded, allowing only healthy embryos to be implanted during fertility treatments. No manipulation is to be done to the embryos if they do have a genetic disorder.

Benefits ·         The child would be born without any inherited genetic illnesses and would bring the couple happiness to know that the child would have a normal healthy life free from their own genetic disorder. ·         It allows parents to find out before pregnancy whether their child has a disease. It could perhaps lesson the amount of abortions that take place later on in pregnancies ·         It would allow the birth of a child who could save an older sibling.

Dangers! It leads to the destruction of embryos carrying the disorder. Some argue that this is murder. Someone has to make a decision over whether the embryo survives or not and for some this is like ‘playing God’. It could lead to humans devaluing a person who has an inherited disease. It suggest that people with certain illnesses are not worth of life It could lead to designer babies. It is already used in some countries to sort out male and female embryos. In the future it could mean that we only implant the best embryo and the best could be whatever we want it to be. It is a complicated and risky procedure. The embryo may be at risk of something going wrong because of the procedure.
