Point of Success in the Classroom Students should create the following sections in their binders – Energizers (Writing and Reading) Reading Activities Notes (Writing and Reading) Simply stuffing papers in binders results in lost work. 

Point of Success in the Classroom (Reading) All students are provided with Literature textbooks to take (and keep) @ home – Great for making up work (if absent)! Great for completing unfinished classroom assignments @ home! There’s even a way to access the Literature textbook online! For novel studies, students are responsible for completing most of the reading @ home. 

Point of Success in the Classroom (Writing) Students should already have the following items in class – Writing SOL notebook Works in Progress (WIP) folders These items should be stored in the classroom @ all times. 

Optional – Personal Electronic Devices At appropriate times students may use electronic devices* to help them with – Energizers Vocabulary Research (Reading & Writing) * Cell phones, tablets, or any device with internet access (the school uses Wifi )

How Are Students Evaluated? Total points system – Knowledge & Language: grammar skills, vocabulary, identifying figurative language, and all oral/written language Reading: fiction, narrative nonfiction, nonfiction, and poetry Writing: composing, written expression, revising, editing, and research

Make-Up Work Policy or the Friendly “0” Here’s how a “0” works – Placeholder: lets me know if a student has not submitted an assignment Reminder: reminds students/parents that an assignment has not been submitted A “0” is meant to be temporary and will be changed once an assignment is submitted. 

 Let’s have a GREAT year! It can be worked out…it will work out with effort.
