Lesson 1: Natural Resources Pgs. 288-299 Renewable Resource Nonrenewable Resource Fossil Fuel Material Resource Energy Resource

Natural Resource Pg.290 Is any natural material that is used by humans. Natural resources include air, soil, water, oil, plants, and animals.

Natural Resource Pg.290

Natural Resource Pg.290

Natural Resource Pg.290

Renewable Resource Pg.291 A natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate it is consumed. Solar energy, water, and air are all renewable resources.

Renewable Resource Pg.291

Renewable Resource Pg.291

Renewable Resource Pg.291

Renewable Resource Pg.291

Nonrenewable Resource Pg. 291 A resource that forms much more slowly than it is consumed. Some natural resources, such as minerals, form very slowly. (https://youtu.be/6ph2JzM0dsU)

Fossil Fuel Pg.291

Material Resource Pg.292 Are the natural resources that make objects, food, and drink. Material resources can be both renewable and nonrenewable.

Material Resource Pg.292

Energy Resource Pg.294 Natural resources used to generate energy are called energy resources.

Lesson 3: Renewable Energy Resources Pgs. 314-325 Wind Energy Hydroelectric Energy Solar Energy Biomass Geothermal Energy Fusion

Energy Resource Pg.302 Natural resources used to generate energy are called energy resources.

Energy Resource Pg.302

Energy Resource Pg.294

Wind Energy Pg.318 Uses the force of moving air to drive an electric generator or do other work. Wind energy is renewable because the wind will blow as long as the sun warms the earth.

Wind Energy Pg.318

Wind Energy Pg.318

Hydroelectric Energy Pg.319 Electrical energy produced by moving water. Hydroelectric energy is renewable because the water cycle is driven by the sun.

Hydroelectric Energy Pg.319

Hydroelectric Energy Pg.319

Solar Energy Pg.320 Is the energy received by earth from the sun in the form of radiation. Solar energy can also be used to warn buildings directly. Solar energy can be converted into electricity by solar cells as well.

Solar Energy Pg.320

Solar Energy Pg.320

Biomass Pg.322 Is organic matter from plants and from animal waste that contains chemical energy. But I am asking be burned to release energy. This energy can be used to cook food, provide warmth, or power and injury. Biomass sources include trees, crops, animal waste and peat.

Biomass Pg.322

Biomass Pg.322

Geothermal Energy Pg.323 Is energy produced by heat from earths interior. Geothermal energy heat rock formations deep within the ground. Ground water absorbs this heat and forms hot springs and geysers where water reaches Earth surface. Geothermal energy is used release energy as heat and electricity.

Geothermal Energy Pg.323

Geothermal Energy Pg.323

Fusion Pg. is the process that powers the sun and the stars. It is the reaction in which two atoms of hydrogen combine together, or fuse, to form an atom of helium. In the process some of the mass of the hydrogen is converted into energy. https://youtu.be/DAssKNprOGA

Energy Resource Poster Today you will compare and contrast examples of the energy resources we have learned about (both renewable and nonrenewable sources). I will assign you into groups of two, and you will equally split the work in this project. You will use the example of a poster I have put on the marker board as your guide. Each group will select 3 renewable and 3 nonrenewable energy resources to compare and contrast. You will put the vocabulary word, definition, and then draw two pictures for each energy resource. You will have several days to complete this assignment it is a major project grade, so use your time wisely.

Lesson 3 Review: Renewable Energy Resources Energy Resource: Natural resources used to generate energy are called energy resources. Wind Energy:Uses the force of moving air to drive an electric generator or do other work. Hydroelectric Energy:Electrical energy produced by moving water. Geothermal Energy: Is energy produced by heat from earths interior. Geothermal energy heat rock formations deep within the ground. Fusion:is the process that powers the sun and the stars. It is the reaction in which two atoms of hydrogen combine together, or fuse, to form an atom of helium. In the process some of the mass of the hydrogen is converted into energy.
