SKELETAL SYSTEM. 3 MAIN FUNCTIONS ALLOWS MOVEMENT PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR THE BODY PROTECTS SOFT ORGANS INSIDE THE BODY.
Skeletal System-Functions Provides shape and support Allows movement (provides a surface to which muscles attach) Protect delicate tissues and organs Storage.

Functions of Skeletal System Hematopoiesis Support Movement Mineral Storage Protection

Functions of Skeletal System Support Protection Movement Mineral Storage Hematopoiesis

1. Support Strong framework that muscles attach to Must hold the weight of muscles and organs Bones are stronger than concrete

2. Protection Encloses vital organs especially under skull and inside rib cage

3. Movement Muscle connects to two bones across a joint and pulls the bones toward each other to produce movement

4. Mineral Storage Bones store calcium and phosphorus When Ca2+ is low in the blood, bones release Ca2+ When Ca2+ is high in the blood, bones store Ca2+

5. Hematopoiesis Creation of blood cells that occurs in bone marrow, which is found in some bones

Without the skeletal system, we would be like... Jello!
