Four types of Psychoactive Medications Antipsychotic Drugs- Used to reduce delusions, hallucinations, and agitations. Antidepressant Drugs- Used to treat major depression Lithium- Chemical used to counteract mood swings of bipolar disorder Antianxiety Drugs-Used to relieve anxiety and panic disorders.

Antipsychotic Drugs Prescribed to patients with Schizophrenia Helps keep schizophrenia stay out of mental institutions Improves attentiveness, problem-solving, and organization skills May cause muscular rigidity, impaired coordination, and effects fine motor skills.

Antidepressant Drugs Depression- Psychological disorder caused by extreme sadness. Accompanied by imbalances in the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine Monoamine oxidase (MAO) elevate the levels of certain neurotransmitters Tricyclicantide-pressants increase levels of certain neurotransmitters Side effects: Dizziness, fatigue, forgetfulness, and weight gain
