inTRO VIDEOS As you watch the following videos, continue your KWL chart: Introduction to Black History Month Rosa Parks Scientists & Inventors Ruby Bridges

Black History Month assignment To recognize Black History Month and to explore and learn, you will select an individual that has made major contributions to the world and conduct a research activity to further understand and then present your findings to the class. See the assignment criteria sheet for further information. An art component will be involved, as you will be completing a half portrait of your chosen individual.

Black history: mixed media cooperative art Students are to create works of art as a group assignment. In groups of 4 students, they are to select a Famous Black Canadian/American (choose from their research task) Once they outline their face to a large piece of Bristol Board they are to divide the page.  Each student would receive an even number of pieces (4 – 5) of their poster to colour in using a different type of media(s) on each piece.  Media(s) refers to the materials that are used to create the work of art Drawing – pencil, coloured pencil, ink, markers, pastels, chalk Painting – watercolour, acrylic, tempera Photography Texture  Before students cut up their pieces they should number the back so they know where each piece belongs.
