Offers a learning environment that will follow them into college or a vocational school. Encourages students to join outside organizations. Erica

Instructor’s Role Teaches and manages a classroom setting of students in the childcare field. Requires a Bachelor's Degree with continuing education throughout their career. Teaching responsibility, organization, leadership, with basic teaching skills. Use a curriculum with Indiana standards. Give the students an opportunity for a hands on experience in working with small children. Erica

Experience I was amazed that it was such a large facility that included a gym and indoor pool. Contained a student classroom as well as two preschool classrooms. Enjoyed visiting with the girls and talking with Bennie Silver Liked how she had her curriculum set up with units, activities, and the standards for the calendar year in order. Erica

Purpose of Early Childhood Education Promote readiness among students who want to further their career in ECE Real-life application for their present of future lives Practical life skills any student could use Children get an effective learning environment catering to their developmental level and/or special need. Gabi

Who benefits from ECE programs? Students ECE programs allow students to get hands on experiences working with young children. Helps students along career pathway. The community ECE programs provide the community with childcare services at an affordable cost. Children from the community get to be in an environment that promotes academic learning, discovery, independence, and social interactions. Jessica

Students with Special Needs No student can be turned away from the program. As long as they complete the pre-requisites they are eligible. At Benton Central they offer the class as a service learning credit. This is when students can come to the pre-school and do everything the normal students do with the children except they aren’t required to do the homework. Jessica

Benton Central “Rainbow Table” Every child is required to participate in that days activity at the rainbow table. Jessica

Observation Guide Explore career pathways in ECE Curriculum, teaching methods & standards in ECE Teacher evaluations & strategies Industry certifications & dual credits Adapting the learners with special needs Student safety & labor laws Student organizations and leadership Advisory committee & public promotion Student recruitment, selection & expectations Specialized knowledge of teacher preparation & licensure Allyson

Interview Questions Teacher: Restrictions for students with special needs in program? Advisory committee for program? How do you assess students through daily routines? Student: Most beneficial learning experience so far? Selection process for acceptance into program? Participation in FCCLA events? Allyson

Interesting Information Lack of assessment of students experiences in classroom (binder, lesson plans, bulletin boards, etc.) Having a student go into the program thinking elementary children are all “fun & games” High school students are interested in FCCLA events. (I never had FCCLA in HS) Allyson
