Welcome to Middle School Art 2017-2018 Welcome to Middle School Art

Great expectations! You are expected to walk down the hall quietly. Place your belongings on the shelves not on the floor! Have your agenda & a pencil out and ready! You are expected to use the designated door, the other door is not for student use.

Fire Drills/Evacuation Drills/Lockdown Drills You are expected to exit the room and building silently so that you can hear directions. Exit room where you enter for class, go left and then right and out glass doors up onto hill to the softball field. If you are in bathroom or elsewhere in building, exit the closest door to where you are and notify a teacher that you belong with me. Lockdown location is the science closet next to back exit of room.

Bathroom sign out You will use only the lavatory to the right of where you exit my room Sign out in your agenda. Put the destination & time & ask me nicely to allow you to go! Sign out in the book by the door. Please use tissues at the back of the room and wash your hands after you are done. Thank you!

Supplies Pencil sharpeners are on the back counters. Please do not use them when I am speaking. Materials needed for your project will be available at your table. If there is something you need that is not in your art caddy please see me. Supplies such as shape templates & other drawing aids are on the front shelves & are available to you when you need them, as long as you put them back where they belong. Each table is responsible for making sure theirsupplies are returned. Your table may NOT leave (even if the bell has rung, if any supplies are on your table)

Supplies At the introduction of each lesson and class, you will be told where to locate the supplies you are using for your assignment, if they are not on your table. All students are expected to help pass out materials, folders and projects so that we are working productively as quickly as possible.

Grading You will be given an assignment with clear expectations for grading purposes. The rubric for this assignment will be displayed on the bulletin board during each class. A Criteria for Success will be posted for each assignment, this will clearly explain the expectations for the assignment & will be the same expectations that you are graded on in the rubric. Extra Credit is always available. Each term a sign is posted with the deadline for turning it in. You may earn up to 1-5 pts on your lowest grade.

Rubrics cont. On EVERY Rubric you will be graded on: Following Directions Using your class time wisely- Time spent “off task” will greatly hurt your grade. Being respectful- of others, their work, & your surroundings. Being Prepared Responding Well to Constructive Criticism

Class Procedures 1. Come in QUIETLY. 2 People pass out folder, 2 people pass out sketchbooks. 2. Wait QUIETLY for Instructions for the day. 4. Work QUIETLY/ SILENTLY on your project. 5. If you think you are “finished” check the Criteria for Success.

Class Procedures Cont 6. Fill out a Self Assessment & hand it in, this is how I know your project is ready to be handed in/ graded. 7. Clean Up- Put everything back where it BELONGS! 8. Get out your sketchbook & draw or work on an extra credit project.

Class Rules 1. Respect Yourself- Always come to class prepared to learn & do your best. 2. Respect the Teacher- Always do what is asked of you. Do not disrupt the class. Do NOT talk while I am talking. 3. Respect Others- NEVER make fun of anyone, or their Art! 4. Respect other Classes- Always work QUIETLY, there are other classes going on around you! 5. Respect the Supplies/ Art Room-Always treat the art supplies with care. Clean up after yourself!!!

Consequences If you do not follow the class rules you can expect the following consequences. 1. Verbal Warning/ Seat Moved if needed. 2. Read & answer questions from a text book 3. Lunch Retention/ Parent Notification 4. Sent to the Office * If your Behavior warrants you will immediately be removed from class/ sent to the office. Behaviors that could warrant you an immediate trip to the office: Swearing Vandalizing Art Room Property Bullying Disrespect towards teacher Violence Anything that could harm others or yourself.

Great Year! We have a great year with a lot of exciting projects planned for you! In order to get the best art experience we all must work together to make this a fun & inviting environment. The Rules & Procedures are designed to help art class run as smoothly & productively as possible. As you know we are located in the middle of the 6th grade wing with no real walls. We must always work quietly & be respectful of the classes going on around us.
