What is a “travel brochure”? A travel brochure is a handout or pamphlet you might receive if you are planning a trip somewhere. Travel brochures are non-fiction, because they are written about a REAL place.

Purpose: to inform Travel brochures include information, pictures, and descriptions about the destination you’re going to. They might include: Photos of beautiful scenery or fun activities Maps of the area Lists of activities available at your destination Facts or statistics about the area (who lives there, what kind of restaurants or hotels there are, animals that are indigenous to the area) Coupons or discounts to local businesses or attractions

Examples:

Make Your Own Brochure! Your job: create a “travel brochure” featuring the setting from the story “Squid Girl” by Todd Strasser. You should include… A NAME for the island/beach in the story Six “pages” (one page folded into 3’s, front and back) Pictures of what you think the setting looks like “Information” about accommodations (where you can stay) attractions (what you can do) on the island Animal life Tourism Quotes from the text (with page numbers) that support your vision of the island!
