What does popcorn have to do with a food chain?

The sun provides the energy for all food chains and food webs The sun provides the energy for all food chains and food webs. Because producers (plants) make their own food, they need the sun for photosynthesis!

The herbivores are the next level in the popcorn food chain The herbivores are the next level in the popcorn food chain. There are three types of consumers. 1. Herbivores eat only producers, or plants. 2. Carnivores eat only other consumers. 3. Omnivores eat both producers and consumers.

All consumers must eat in order to have energy All consumers must eat in order to have energy! The energy still comes from the sun, travels through the producers, and then goes to the consumers!

In a food chain, you might have grass, grasshoppers, mice, and hawks.

The grass, a producer, gets energy from the sun, making its own food The grass, a producer, gets energy from the sun, making its own food. The grasshoppers are primary consumers, getting the sun’s energy from the grass.

The mice are secondary consumers, getting the sun’s energy from the grasshoppers. The hawks are tertiary consumers, getting the sun’s energy from the mice.
