The Writing Process Conclusions

What is a conclusion? A conclusion paragraph is where you wrap up your essay. The conclusion paragraph should introduce NO new ideas and restate your thesis statement and major ideas.

How to construct a conclusion? In order to construct a conclusion, you should do the following. Restate your thesis statement. It should not be a copied, word for word, restatement of the thesis in the introduction. Reword it! Remind your reader of the major points made in your body paragraphs. Finish the essay with some sort of clincher that alludes back to your attention-getter.

Example of a Conclusion In order to be successful in his revenge on Fortunato, Montresor must access all the different parts of his personality. By accessing the darkest depths of his vengeful nature, he is able to focus his energy on the most horrific, but satisfying torture for Fortunato. His ability to use reverse psychology and manipulation allow him to accomplish this deed. Finally, his intelligent choices permit him to get away with the murder in the end. Is murder the way to fulfill someone’s vengeance? It seems so for Montresor.
