Review of Essay Writing

Remember: Each AEA paragraph is a body paragraph of an essay! Essays have three parts

Introductory Paragraphs contain: The title of the work and the author’s name Pertinent background information of the story An argumentative thesis statement Sentence variety

The body of the essay contains body paragraphs. Each body paragraph has A well written assertion which proves part of your thesis Evidence which is carefully and thoughtfully chosen. This evidence should help prove your assertion. Remember to introduce your evidence and weave it into your paragraph An analysis of how the evidence you have chosen proves your assertion. Remember that there should be much more analysis than evidence. You also should layer literary terms.

Layering literary terms As you discuss your evidence and how it fits the assertion, layer your literary terms Each literary terms needs to support your assertion, too.

Concluding paragraph Restates your thesis and closes the essay Try to mention an overarching idea from your essay

Grammar/Mechanics MLA format must be followed NO first or second person Use proper grammar and spelling
