Bellwork Tuesday 1/17/17 When writing an essay, it is important to stay on topic and to lead the reader in a clear direction. On a clean sheet of paper, copy (1) the theme of your essay and (2) the topic sentence (first sentence) of each body paragraph. Ask yourself: Do my topic sentences clearly explain my theme statement? Are they in a logical order? After you have written and thought about your work, place it in the pink box on the cart.
Assignment Tuesday 1/17/17 Finish all body paragraphs of your essay and add a conclusion following the instructions and example given. (See your previous notes on writing an essay as well as the example conclusion on the next slide.) Have your entire essay ready to type when you return to class.
Example Conclusion Like Icarus, most people have a wise and caring person in their lives who tries to direct them on good paths. These people could be parents, teachers, family members, or friends. The story of “Daedalus and Icarus” shows the importance of listening to those people. Icarus did not intend to die, nor did he disobey his father out of blatant disrespect; he simply got carried away by his pride and excitement. Unfortunately, his failure to follow instructions still led to his death. This story teaches readers that they can avoid many dangers in life simply by listening to those who guide them in love and from experience.
