Peer Editing—Thesis Is it written in academic language? (no slang, text language or punctuation, etc.) Is it clear? Can you as a reader understand it without help from the author? Does it answer Mr. Steen’s favorite question(s) of WHY, HOW, & SO WHAT?!? Is it an argument? Can it be debated and proven? Provide (kind, but useful) feedback…if it’s just “awesome!” that’s not terribly helpful…

The varying religions of the Stuart monarchs affected the social aspects and individual rights of the English society by constantly changing the laws. what makes Louis the 14th an absolute monarch? The daily lives for a peasant in the Renaissance was hell and was not a happy place to be. The corruption of the church negatively impacted the lives of people during Renaissance era. Montesquieu's revolutionary ideas helped reshape France and Britain's government into more successful and proficient structures. The French Revolution sparked from unrest within the people driven by high taxes, social society, and government which created great reform in France. Absolute rulers like Louis XIV aided France in discovering the need for a monarchy. The consequences of The Reign of Terror were Napoleon rising to power and wars with other nations. The power that Louis XIV held, was extravagant and obvious to the people, with an extreme number of changes. Galileo was one the most important figures in the Scientific Revolution. He was the first person to see the mountains on the moon, the spots on the sun, and and four moons of Jupiter all with a telescope.

OUTLINING I would argue this might be the most important step in the writing process—while also being one of the most overlooked… Template online I like to use physical note cards in organizing it first…easier to “edit” by moving a card than typing…

OUTLINING Start with your thesis Does it have layers? Lists? Complexity? (it should…) Can you categorize your evidence into topics? Does it apply to your thesis in some way? (it should…) Can you then create what we’ll term BTS—Body Thesis Statement? Think of them as “mini theses…” or topic sentences… Do all of these represent aspects or concepts consistent with my main thesis? (they must!!!)

Analysis THEN, start adding in 2 sentence analysis… Explains the significance of the evidence Displays the correlation to the thesis Huh? WHAT is your evidence MEAN? HOW does your evidence PROVE your thesis?

Analysis When you’re done with your outline… Read it in REVERSE order… Yes, read it BACKWARDS…Steen will… Does your analysis make sense in relation to your evidence? (it should…) Does your evidence make sense in relation to your BTS? (it better…) Do all your BTS make sense in relation to your main thesis? (they MUST!!!)
