Parts of a Map
1. Map Title identifies the purpose of the map
2. Legend/key identifies the meaning of symbols, or icons, on the map
3. Compass rose tells direction cardinal directions: north, south, east, west intermediate directions: northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest

linking of people and places based on location 1. Spatial linking of people and places based on location Ex: absolute and relative location
unique characteristic of an area Ex: bounce music to New Orleans 2. Place unique characteristic of an area Ex: bounce music to New Orleans
3. Region defined by physical or human features 3 types of regions: a: formal – wards of New Orleans b: functional – greater New Orleans c. perceptual – the south
4. Physical and Human Systems the physical processes that effect humans and human activities and their relationship to cultural and physical environments
5. Environment and Society relationship between people and their environment Can be positive or negative
6. Uses of Geography how physical and living things developed in the past and how current trends can help plan for the future
