Help with Excel Graphs CHM 2046L

Type the Data in Excel First, type you data into Excel, with the independent values (x-axis) in column A and the dependent values (y-axis) in column B.

Highlight the columns and select the “Insert” tab, then select the “Scatter” graph

Select “Layout 1” from the Chart layouts options on the tool bar.

Change the Chart title to your chart title and the axis labels

NOTE: Some experiments will require that you add a trendline to your data series. If so, follow steps on the remaining slides to add the appropriate trendline.

Right click on any of the data points on the chart and select “Add Trendline…”

Select the Appropriate Trendline and Display Equation and R2 Select the appropriate trendline (varies by experiment), then select Display Equation on chart and Display R2 value on chart. Then close. The R2 value is the correlation coefficient, and indicates how well your data points fall on the line. An R2 value close to 1 means that the data has an almost perfectly linear relationship.
