Regulatory mechanisms in animals

Animals respond to changes in their external and internal environments by adjusting physiological processes…. What is happening in these pictures??? Compare and contrast the structural, behavioural and physiological adaptations of the two animals

Homeostasis….. ….the maintenance of a constant internal environment…… Homeostasis is the maintenance of an internal environment A negative feedback mechanism

Homeostasis is controlled by… Homeostasis is controlled by…. the hormonal system…………………and the nervous system

What factors are under homeostatic control? Body Temperature (Thermoregulation) Water level in blood (Water balance) Blood glucose concentration Oxygen and carbon dioxide concentration in blood Concentrations of ions ie sodium, chloride, calcium....

Activity 1. http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/biosnippets/ Watch the first three sections of the link below http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/biosnippets/ Represent as a diagram how you think the heart responds when you have to run to catch the bus? when you are resting on the bus?

The endocrine system Compare and contrast the hormonal systems of the plant and an animal……….

The Nervous system A Neuron There are two types of neurons: sensory and motor…..

Reflex arcs
