GOAL OF THE WORKSHOP Workshop is aimed at four career components in the basic education that teachers can easily integrate within the curricula subjects. WHAT WE MISS IN THE CAREER GUIDANCE AT SCHOOL Research in basic schools on the sample more than 6 000 students revealed that: ONLY 9,4% of the students (12 – 14 years old) knew what they are good at Teachers´ role in career guidance creates only 16 – 18% of relevance 40% of the students in 8th grade do not know what they would like to do, or how the school they had selected related to the occupation The decisive role in the decision making concerning the selection of the school or occupation play parents, Recently: Only 2 – 3% of the students knew who was the career guide at their school Kód ITMS projektu: 312011C789

CAREER GUIDANCE COMPONENTS IN EDUCATION The components of career education to implement directly in the instruction Supporting activities of the national project: Self-concept Information Experience Influence Re-defining the lessons procedures in the subject matters Training of the teachers and career guides in the 3-days workshop „Supporting Career Development of the Basic Education Students“. WHAT NEED EMPLOYERS Employers identified lack of skills needed at workplace and the life: Flexibility Ability to adapt to chnge, change the behavior, habits, effectively work in new or changing environmnets Independent problem solving  Ability to independently analyze situation, to search solutions and perform a task Cooperation (within the work)  Ability to join the common work, to create positive atmosphere in a team, effort to achieve team results Problem solving Ability to identify problem in time, define the problem, analyse the problem, find the viariants of solution, to select the best solution, to implement the solution and evaluate the result. Decision making Ability to do quick solutions based on combination of analysis, experience and good judgment. Self-presentation and communication Ability to effectively (verbally and non verbaly) present oneself , express one’s ideas, opinions and attitudes an present with selfconfidence. Completing work Ability to start work with enthusiasm and to finish what was started, even if complicated situations occur. Keeping, the rules, discipline Ability to hold on with principles of work, rules of safety and socially agreed rules. . Resilience Ability to cope in difficult situation, work under pressure and overcome obstacles.. NEW ROLE OF TEACHERS AS CAREER GUIDES The teacher´s role in career guidance is crucial and they can improve career development and preparation for life, if they use general principles of learning and working habits in the classroom: Greater variety of teaching methods, More independence given to the students´ learning, Increasing the sense of learning for practical life Providing opportunities for group work, Increasing the reflection of learning, Providing opportunities for innovative approach to the content processing by the students. LESSON PLAN GUIDING STUDENTS TO WORK AND LIFE 1. Goals and performance standards Teacher prepares the lesson according to the performance standards. 2. Training of the LIFE SKILL Practical training of a skill needed for work of life and the life itself. 3. Demonstration and processing the subject matter – ACTIVITIES of the students Application of the content, group work and activating methods and higher level thinking skills. 4. Application of the content in the real life, or occupations Connecting new content with the occupations and industries. 5. LESSON EXAMPLE: 1. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND THE LESSON GOALS By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: converse metric (cm to km, cm to m) related to time and calculate circumference explain measurement of the wind with anemometer practice group work skill - express their feelings in an open but non- threatening way explain the occupations related to wind seed measurement and wind energy usage Kód ITMS projektu: 312011C789

2. 3. LESSON CONTENT – DEMONSTRATION AND ACTIVITY In groups of 4 students: prepare anemometer ( anemo = wind in Greek, e.g. wind meter) from the available materials. Based on the movement of anemometer in the wind, each group counts how many times it spins in a given time (spins or revolutions/1 min). The blow of the wind is measured in km/1 hour, the result needs to be conversed into cm/1 min and then conversed in km/1 hour. HO 2 – conversion procedure Kód ITMS projektu: 312011C789
